  • Your boss’s boss has a boss, that has an ask !

Your boss’s boss has a boss, that has an ask !

Interesting conversations from the past in my consultancy days, summarised and adapted for context. It is a call we all have in our working lives.

Senior Director, I was very impressed how you presented all the information yesterday. I know you were standing in for your boss, and well done.

By the way, I need you to pick this ask up and understand that this is an important request. I know you are standing in for your boss. If you could do this for me, it would really help, and we require XYZ, so we can present it to your boss’s, boss, who has a bossy boss blah blah.

Me, Yes, I have picked this up. I am also dealing with your bosses request which is urgent for today. I am prioritising the asks, how about you lead on this, whilst I do your bosses request, and we can catch up afterwards.

Senior Director response, Oh, my boss has come out to you. Well, oh, well, yes, I would rather not stretch you. Ermmm….this is still significant, though.

Summary: People will constantly try to lean on others to do their work. In some cases, they will use authority and rank. In the end, we can only do so much firefighting.

  • Happy New Year Cyber Security World

Happy 2022 to all. The new year will be a busy one for those who work in security.

Change of governments, new partnerships and working from home will mean we need to ensure the basic principles remain key.

50% of CEO’s 12021 made security a priority, compared to 26% of employees and project managers. Education, awareness and continuous vigilance is a must. Let’s help others get this right in 2022 and not a reactive afterthought.

  • Log4Shell: RCE 0-day exploit found in log4j 2

Many, many services are vulnerable to this exploit. Cloud services like Steam, Apple iCloud, and apps like Minecraft have already been found to be vulnerable.

Sounds like another Equifax issue here .

An extensive list of responses from impacted organisations has been compiled here.

  • The right to choose your privacy

Privacy should be critical in any service & contain the ability to opt-in or out if required. The right to say no to tracking is similar to any freedom to choose. However, Apple can not be critical of Facebook when they take billions from Google Aplle vs Facebook

  • Privacy as we talk

Privacy is so important, especially in the applications we use online. That’s why I support what apple is trying to do, in educating users in the finer details of what an app is accessing or storing about you.

The difference between what’s app and Signal is amazing, so is the end user experience. If you want a real laugh, check out what Facebook is collecting.
